Could you join Craig Gillies in a cycling challenge?

A FORMER Worcester Warriors rugby giant will pedal 100km in a moonlit ride past London’s iconic landmarks to raise funds for St Richard’s Hospice.

Craig Gillies, the 6ft 8in lock, will be joining 3,000 others on the Nightrider cycling event.

Mr Gillies, who lives in Worcester, retired last year aged 37 and has decided to take on the cycling challenge in his testimonial year.

He is also building up a health and nutrition business.

He said: "Since retiring I’m not at the same level or intensity of fitness I was at the Warriors but I still keep in shape with regular training.

"The Nightrider jumped out at me as a personal challenge to take on, particularly as I went to uni and lived in London when I played for Richmond so will be cycling through old haunts.

"It’s great that I can also raise some money to help such a great local charity continue its care.”

Also taking part for St Richard’s are hospice volunteer David Purdham, from Powick, staff members Robert Standfield and Ed Whiteman, both from Worcester, and supporters Nick Sandy, from Powick, and Chris Wilson from Worcester.

The ride takes place on Sunday, June 8.

St Richard's Hospice still has a small number of places available for the Nightrider so anyone interested in taking part for the hospice should contact Jodi Brandwood in the fundraising team on 01905 763963 or email jbrandwood@strichards.org.uk

There is a £39 registration fee and a fundraising target of £175.

Registrations are required by Friday, May 9.

The Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and supports their families.
