A NEW project will provide support and resources for those looking after places of worship.

The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings, with support from the Heritage Lottery Fund, aims to create a sustainable network of local groups who can confidently carry out essential maintenance as part of its maintenance cooperatives project.

Worcestershire is one of five areas to benefit from the scheme and the launch event takes place at Church House, adjacent to St Bartholomew’s Church, Arley Kings, near Stourport, on Saturday, May 31 from 10am to 1pm.

The project aims to provide training to develop knowledge and skills in both the people responsible for the building and a team of volunteers who can work together to spot and fix problems.

It will include an introduction by Kate Andrew, the regional project officer, and a tour of the church looking at points where the Project could assist with training and support.
