AN Evesham charity has thanked the contractors working on the town's Abbey Bridge after they made a donation of wood to the children's organisation.

The Evesham Adventure Playground, which provides playful opportunities for children, young people and families in the Vale, asked the developers Hochtief if they would donate some of the unwanted wood from the bridge project to the charity.

The group were delighted when they said yes and over the moon when they discovered how much they had set aside for them and are planning to use the wood to build a new tree house.

Kath Jones, chairman of the Evesham Adventure Playground Association, said she wanted to thank the company.

She said: "I would like to say a very public thank you to them for not only letting us have the wood, but for loading, delivering and unloading it as well.

"I actually went down and asked them when they first started if we could possibly have some stuff and as a charity we are always looking for wood for our structures and they said yes, just come back and see us when we are finished.

"We weren't sure if they were just saying yes to get rid of me, but when we went back they said yes and two days later we returned and they had two tipper lorries and the back of my car filled up as well.

"We have various projects on the go but the main thing is a new tree house for the children. The children have been very involved in it and they are involved in the design as well.

"It will make a huge difference to us, and our outside space, and is a fantastic example of local recycling too."
