AN awards ceremony celebrated the excellence of a variety of building projects.

The South Worcestershire Building Control Partnership held its third Building Excellence Awards at Worcestershire County Cricket Ground, New Road, Worcester, on Tuesday, May 6.

It honoured local developers and construction companies for high quality building projects showing a strong commitment to meeting and exceeding building regulations and standards.

Jack Hegarty, managing director of Wychavon District Council, said: “Good building workmanship so rarely gets appreciated as too often the focus has been on the problems associated with building failures.

"This event was designed to help change this perception by not only demonstrating the range of talented building professionals in the county, but how the three councils are working closely with them to ensure construction projects benefit the local environment.”

The winners were selected by a panel of judges from Malvern Hills District Council, Worcester City Council and Wychavon District Council.

Best Social/Affordable Housing went to Speller Metcalfe for 10 dwellings in North Littleton, near Evesham, and Best Individual New Home was awarded to Fred Chalcroft for a replacement dwelling in Castlemorton, near Malvern.

Best Extension to an Existing Home was given to Anthony Francis General Builder for a garage and utility room extension in Malvern and Monor Developments won Best Small Housing Development for new dwellings in Droitwich.

Best Educational/Community Building went to Leon Building Services of Evesham and Simon Haines was awarded Best Change of Use/Conversion for an extension and conversion of garage in Besford, near Pershore.
