Energy firm employees to take on charity row
4:59pm Friday 16th May 2014 in News
STAFF from energy giant npower will be getting active to support their charity partner.
Heather Tyrer, Simon Homer and Jo-Anne Yeomans, who work at the firm's Worcester offices in Warndon, will join about 50 other employees from across England to take part in a 21-mile row across Lake Windermere for Macmillan Cancer Support.
It forms part of a company-wide campaign to get employees to raise £150,000, which the energy supplier pledges to match pound for pound.
Heather Tyrer, a community manager at npower, said: “I can’t wait to get out on the lake. I think it will be tough, but our team will get us through. Sadly my dad has lost his fight with cancer and therefore he will be with me all the way through the row.”
Simon Homer, an analyst at npower, said: “I’m looking forward to the row, especially with what has happened in recent weeks. My father was cared for by a Macmillan-funded nurse, and she was amazing in the last weeks and days of this life, so this row is important to me.”
Teams of four will be put into old-fashioned wooden boats and it’s expected to take eight hours to complete.
The '10 for 10' campaign aims to support people affected by cancer who are struggling to pay their energy bills.
Part of the amount raised from ’10 for 10’ will go towards funding new energy advisors on the Macmillan Support Line who will support people affected by cancer who are struggling to pay their fuel bills and refer them to this programme, as well as other schemes.
