AN ice cream producer has scooped not one but two prestigious awards.

Churchfields Farmhouse Ice-Cream, based at Salwarpe in Droitwich, tasted double success at the Heart of England Fine Foods (HEFF) Diamond Awards ceremony in the Hilton Birmingham Metropole at the NEC on Saturday, May 10.

The company walked away with the top accolade of the overall Taste Award - beating all other category winners - as well as winning the Dairy category with its Worcestershire plum ice-cream, which is made using traditional methods with locally sourced plums.

Fiona Roberts, who helps run the business with others members of her family, said: We are delighted to win these Diamond Awards with our Worcestershire plum ice cream.

"To win the dairy category was exciting enough, but to win the overall Taste Award was completely unexpected, given the quality of products we were up against.”

Her sister and business owner, Gillian Kerton, said: “We have an exceptionally hard-working group of people at the farm, and it is thanks to them that we have won this award - whether they have been milking the cows, producing the ice cream or selling the final product.”

Churchfields is a family-run business and celebrated 100 years of farming in 2013.

They began producing ice cream nine years ago, when the aftermath of foot and mouth disease saw plummeting milk prices and the family needed to develop its revenue stream.

Since then the business has become a multi-award winning success and Churchfields ice cream is sold in pubs and restaurants across the region, as well being stocked by retail outlets, including major supermarket chains.

The ice cream is handmade on the family's farm using milk from their pedigree herd and it is manufactured using a traditional batch freezer to reach the highest quality with very little air added.
