KEEN gardeners in the village of Ashton-under-Hill are busily putting the finishing touches to borders and displays in time for their 37th annual Open Gardens event.
More than 1,000 visitors are expected on Saturday, June 7 and Sunday, June 8 along with several groups arriving by coach from Swindon, Bristol, Buckinghamshire and Hampshire and individual visitors from as far afield as Italy.
They will be able to enjoy strolling around 26 varied and interesting gardens from 1pm to 6pm both days along with an exhibition of paintings and photographs in St Barbara's Church.
John Dodge, Chairman of the organising committee, said: “Our visitors always appreciate the warm and friendly welcome they receive here in Ashton and many of them come back every year because there’s always something new to see”.
The popular annual event aims to raise funds for the community and last year money was donated to St Barbara’s Church for roof repairs, the village Community Centre for improvements to the children’s playground, the WI, the Guides, and the Bredon Hill Middle School Garden Club.
Admission is £5 for adults and children go free. There is also a complimentary shuttle bus around the village.
