A MAN has died following a serious crash on the A46.

Emergency services were called at 12.55pm today to the Cheltenham Road, near the Beckford Inn, Beckford, after a crashbetween a white IVECO panel van and a grey Yamaha YZF motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a 49-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the van, a man from Pershore, was taken to hospital.

An ambulance, a paramedic officer and two air ambulances attended the scene along with the fire service and the police.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “Crews arrived to find a motorcycle and a van that had been in a serious collision.

“The man riding the motorcycle was in traumatic cardiac arrest and advanced life support was carried out by medics. 

"Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of everyone in attendance nothing could be done to save the man and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“The driver of the van, a man in his late 50’s, was not injured in the crash, but later on suffered chest pain at the scene and also the effects of shock.

“The man received treatment and was airlifted to Worcester Royal Hospital for further treatment.”

The road between Sedgeberrow and Teddington Hands was closed until 4.10pm and local schools were alerted of traffic delays.

Any witnesses should call West Mercia Police on 101 quoting incident number 264 S of 22/05/14.
