A PERSHORE-based barbershop chorus is celebrating after picking up a trophy in a prestigious nationwide song contest.

Vale Harmony won first prize in its division at the Annual Convention of the British Association of Barbershop Singers in Harrogate at the weekend.

The 16-strong chorus was one of 46 groups which took part in the contest and were ranked 28th overall.

It was the first time in seven years that Vale Harmony had taken part in the Convention and their Musical Director, Chris Hartwright, said they were thrilled to be Division Four champions.

" I was so privileged and proud to accept the trophy on behalf of the chorus," he said."Their dedication, and many hours of refining our performance has paid off in spades.

"I was overwhelmed when I was eventually able to get off the presentation stage, and share the delight with the rest of the guys. They put in the time, and effort, I only stand in front and wave my arms about."

The two songs that earned the trophy for Vale Harmony were " Yes Sir, That's My Baby" and "For All We Know".

The chorus, which rehearses every Wednesday night at Fladbury Village Hall, is now aiming for more success at next year's Convention in Llandudno.
