A SELFLESS Evesham 10-year-old currently battling cancer has vowed to raise thousands for a cure for the ruthless disease so no one else has to go through what she is.

Seren Arthurs pledged to raise £10,000 for Cancer Research UK in December last year – just a month after being diagnosed with cancer.

Six months on the youngster, who has stage three lymphoblastic lymphoma and has to undergo chemotherapy once a week for the next three years, is already almost half way to her target.

"I have cancer and it is really horrible and I don't want anyone else to have it so I want to help Cancer Research cure it," said Seren, a pupil at St Egwin’s Middle School in Evesham. "I am trying to raise £10,000. I will do all that I can."

She has had some support from Relay for Life teams, the All Stars and Guiding Stars, who will be completing the 24 hour fundraiser in Evesham later this summer.

And now Seren is arranging her next fundraiser, a Ceilidh on Saturday, June 7, in Hampton Hall from 7.30pm to 11pm.

"I have been very poorly in hospital recently and so I did not sell as many as I hoped yet," she added. "Thank you for your help and support because I really need it, I can't do this on my own and I really really want to succeed."

Seren who has two sisters and one brother is also getting fundraising help from home.

Her eldest sister Molly, 12, is planning to cut her hair and donate it to the Little Princess Trust, which gave Seren a wig.

Mum, Tamsin, and dad, Jason, were already doing the Relay for Life in memory of Seren's grandad when they found out about her condition. They vowed to carry on with the challenge in her honour.

"We went past the total we had set for a few thousand pounds and Seren said she wanted to raise £10,000," said Mrs Arthurs. "We decided it's the time to say go for it.

"When we first found out, she never complains, but she was feeling slightly breathless. The doctors sent us to the hospital and her lung had collapsed.

"The lump was in her throat and was touching her abdomen. They said I think she has only had it for four weeks.

"She's doing really well. She is such a lovely little girl. She's always doing stuff for everyone else."
