EVESHAM'S Bell Tower Appeal has been reaching far and wide and has even been getting support from across the Atlantic.

When residents of Evesham's twin town, Evesham in New Jersey, were asked if they would like to support the Bell Tower Appeal, they had no hesitation.

They set up a fundraising evening and a photo of the Bell Tower in winter was put forward as a lot in a charity auction.

Twinning Association member, Tracey Birnbohm, also made a beautiful handmade quilt, which too went up for auction.

The event was held in front of a great crowd on Friday, May 2nd, at Marco’s, Indian Spring Country Club.

Apart from the auction items, other goods, including a range of Bell Tower Appeal merchandise, was also on sale and a total of around £400 was raised for the appeal.

Kitty Rovito was the winner of the Bell Tower picture.

Sue Ablett, chairman of the appeal committee, said: "Kitty and husband, Tom, have been main movers in the twinning association ever since it started.

"They have visited Evesham many times and love the town. They were absolutely thrilled to have this lovely picture.

"There is an interesting American connection that predates the twinning link.

"Chris Povey, Ringing Master, is always happy to tell the stories linked to the Tower and its bells.

"On the second trip of the Evesham UK twinning party to New Jersey, they were given a recording of the Bell Tower bells being run, so the Bell Tower bells are heard on two continents and in two places called Evesham."
