ONE of Worcestershire's largest local events is even bigger this year as Hanbury Countryside Show will be incorporating classes organised by Hanbury Horticultural Society .

The all-day show in the village near Droitwich, generally considered to be the basis for the long running radio soap The Archers, will feature sections for produce, flowers, floral art, home baking, preserves, handicrafts and photography as well as special classes for children, including decorated plant pot and handmade birthday card.

Emily Steenton, the event's horticultural and homecraft secretary, said: "I have enjoyed competing in the horse classes in the past and having visited last year I was amazed at how much the show had grown: it was very well attended and professionally run. I was pleased to find out that there was the opportunity to get involved with the running of the show and I hope that local people will take the opportunity to help make this year’s show a success too.”

There are many classes in each section and the best in section winner can look forward to being presented with a superb trophy. These include the Vernon Rose Bowl which was donated to the Hanbury Horticultural Society by Sir George Vernon of Hanbury Hall for the produce section. Also, the Bearcroft Cup, donated by Major Bearcroft, whose family home was Mere Hall, for the floral art section. The best in home baking will receive the Muriel Liddle Cup, the best photograph will be awarded the Harry Ford Cup and the children will be award the Webbs Garden Centre Cup.

Hanbury Countryside Show takes place on Saturday, July 5 at Park Hall Farm, Hanbury.
