THE Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport will open Bromsgrove Festival next weekend.

Sajid Javid will be the guest of honour during the launch reception and gala at the town's Artrix Arts Centre on Saturday, June 14 and the festival itself runs until Sunday, July 20.

Under the leadership of a new committee, the festival will offer a selection of classical music as well as a wide range of theatre, art, poetry, literature and digital events.

Graham Mackenzie, chairman of the festival committee said: "As a newly established committee, one of our first priorities was to deliver a programme of outstanding quality and breadth which celebrates the regeneration of the town and the festival itself.

"We are fortunate to have a thriving network of creative groups in the district and hope that the broader range of events on offer will encourage people to try something new.

"We are delighted that Mr Javid will be present to open the Festival at the launch event."

The Artrix will also be playing host to he New Generation Festival to engage with youngsters from local schools, youth groups and theatres, scout and guide troops.
