THE hard work and success of students at Pershore High School has been rewarded at the annual presentation evening.

The school welcomed special guests from Zambia, a number of local dignitaries and guest of honour Colin Parry OBE to the ceremony on Thursday night (June 26).

More than 100 awards were handed out during the evening, which saw the guest of honour, discuss his charity, The Tim Parry Johnathan Ball Foundation for Peace, set up in honour of his son, who was killed aged 12 by an IRA bomb in Warrington.

Honours for every subject were presented, which were generously sponsored by local companies, as well as the awards for exceptional effort and academic excellence.

Headteacher Clive Corbett said he was as ever delighted with the school's achievement's over the academic year.

"I am truly privileged to lead such a talented and committed group of staff, and am especially proud to work with such an inspiring group of young people.

"The impression that they gave to the Ofsted team is typical of their conscientious and enthusiastic involvement in school life on a day-by-day basis.

"As I said here last year we should not be creating automatons, but developing youngsters with character, who are kind and considerate, optimistic, responsible and resilient; people who will contribute positively to society."

The head of the academy voiced some concerns about the future of the country for young people but added: "For all of my concerns, I remain hugely optimistic about the future of Pershore High School and its students.

"Over the next few years we will implement our exciting new building plans, and we will develop new courses and new opportunities for our young people. But most of all we will continue to care and develop the whole person.

"Parents, governors, friends - thank you for your on-going support. I am so proud of every single one of you, our fine young people, you keep me going, you keep me enthusiastic through all of the negatives.

"Please remain curious and interested, committed to improve, and be happy."
