KIND-hearted colleagues of a man who suffered a massive heart attack at work are organising a fundraiser to give something back to the people that helped him.
Barbara Pugh, who is PA to the chief executive officer of campervan motor home manufacturer Auto-Sleepers, in Willersey, and her colleague Angela Gittus, are hosting a charity day on Sunday, July 13.
They are hoping to raise as much money as possible for Midlands Air Ambulance, British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research UK with a 10, 20 or 30-mile bike ride and 5K or 10K walk or run.
The pair were spurred into action after their 56-year-old colleague Robin Clarke had a heart attack before Christmas while at work.
But thanks to the quickthinking of first aiders on scene who started CPR before the air ambulance arrived, he is now on the road to recovery.
Miss Gittus, a purchase ledger superviser, said: “If the first aiders hadn’t have acted as quickly as they did then his recovery wouldn’t have been as speedy as it was.
"Because we started CPR as quickly as we did that’s what helped a lot. He’s still recovering at home.”
After doing Race for Life for many years with Barbara, Miss Gittus said they decided they wanted to do something different.
And following Mr Clarke’s heart attack, they thought a fundraiser for the three charities was the perfect choice.
“We wanted to thank those that helped us,”
she said. “The ambulance they were amazing. They updated us step by step about what was going on and they told us they would have him in theatre within 15 minutes and apparently they did. We really can’t thank them enough.”
The cycle and running events will start at the Auto-Sleepers factory and finish at Willersey Recreational Ground where there will be stalls, a barbecue, motorhomes on show and a gym taster session.
Miss Gittus said she hoped the event would raise as much money as possible on the day.
“It should be good fun,” she added.
