ONE of the Vale's hidden gems will be opened to the public during an event to support the town's Abbey Bell Tower appeal.

The campaign to raise £500,000 to repair and conserve the 16th century tower has been backed by yet another business in the town as Evesham residents continue to band together in support of one of its landmarks.

This time it was the turn of Harrell's Hardy Plants, run by sisters Liz Nicklin and Kate Phillips.

Sue Ablett, chairman of the Bell Tower Appeal Committee, said: "One of the great joys of involvement with the Bell Tower Appeal is that it has enabled me to meet people and visit places in Evesham that I would never have come across.

"Harrell's Hardy Plants, off Coxlea Close, is just one of those places, an absolute gem. The garden is absolutely breathtaking not only to appreciate the wonderful planting scheme, but to learn the story behind the garden."

Ms Phillips said: "We can’t think of a more worthy cause. As daughters of Evesham, born and bred, we are keen to do our bit to help repair our iconic Bell Tower."

Harrell's Hardy Plants Open Garden event takes place on Sunday, July 20, from 2pm until 5pm.

Entry is £3 for anyone over 16 years old with all proceeds for the Bell Tower appeal.
