EVESHAM High School welcomed former student and mayor of Evesham to its annual awards ceremony.

Councillor Charlie Homer, who was also once head boy at the school, joined a group of students to celebrate their success over the past year.

The event took place on Monday, June 23, at the school and saw Cllr Homer give a speech described as "entertaining and inspiring", which encouraged the students receiving awards and the other guests to make the most of the opportunities offered to them and to always believe they had something worthwhile to achieve.

Excellent academic achievements, outstanding progress and commitment to the community were then all celebrated through awards to Year 13 and Year 11 students, who have just completed their courses at GCSE, A Level and BTech.

The up and coming stars of Year 9, 10 and 12 were also presented with awards recognising their achievements and musical performances for students added to this celebration of talent.

Liz Grinnell, aged 19, received her Martin Davey Jubilee Award for Sports Leadership and the Royal British Legion Community Service Award from Cllr Homer.

Caroline Browne, headteacher, said: "At this event we are always proud to be able to celebrate so much outstanding talent and honoured to have so much support from the local community.

"It was also a privilege to hear Charlie speak about how much he has valued his learning opportunities, through the school and beyond."
