THERE will be a brass band, a theatre group and lots of food and drink at this weekend's Aston Somerville fete and flower show.

The annual event begins on Saturday (July 19) at 2pm in the grounds of the village hall.

Entertaining guests will be the Avonbank Brass Band, the Phoenix Theatre Group, the Worcester Barn Owl Conservation Trust, a wood turning demonstration and there will also be a tombola, skittles, cake an ice cream stall and other games for all ages.

David Weaver, from the village, said as the neighbouring village to Hinton on the Green, which had the boards advertising it fete removed, that no one did the same to them.

He said: "Well our noticeboards were erected on the main road, very close to where Hinton’s disappeared. Hopefully whoever was responsible will leave ours alone.

"Having a good turnout is of course very important, unfortunately yet another bridge closure is complicating access to Aston Somerville from the Broadway direction.

"This railway bridge, further down the line from Broadway, is on the main access road to us from Broadway and other villages to our south, however the diversion is well signed and people can be reassured that it only takes a couple of minutes extra."
