PEOPLE across parts of the Vale and the Cotswolds were without electricity for an hour after a power cut last night (Wednesday).

Western Power engineers were called out at 7.45pm after the power cut which affected places including Evesham, Bretforton, Moreton, Stretton-on-Fosse, Chipping Campden, Broadway, Ilmington and Long Marston.

They managed to restore it within the hour and are now investigating the cause.

People took to Twitter following the power cut which affected businesses and even radio presenter Chris Watts who was presenting his In The Moog Show on North Cotswold Community Radio, in Campden.

Barry Hancox, owner of Prego in Broadway, tweeted: "Major power cut in Broadway this evening……fortunately we have a large supply of candles and The Fleece Inn, Bretforton tweeted: "Rainbows and candlelight - last nights powercut!"

A Western Power spokesman was unable to confirm how many customers were affected but said: "Engineers managed to re-route the network to get the supply back up so they could do the repair without any disruption to supply.

"There was some damage to a piece of equipment on the overhead line. They are working out how that happened."
