Badsey site given approval

First published in News

PLANNERS have given the go ahead to a new development in Badsey, despite being against the proposals.

Wychavon District Council's planning committee voted in support of the plans at Bretforton Road in Badsey, where 11 new homes will be built on Thursday, (July 17).

But they said it was only to remain consistent with a previous approval of the same plans, which has since expired.

Mary Campbell, from Badsey Parish Council, spoke against the plans and asked the council to say no.

She said: "There is no footpath for the children, so in that way it's not sustainable. The road is very busy. Badsey has grown and local residents are really fed up with it all. Maybe our next move should be to apply to be a city."

Her thoughts were supported by Cllr Reg Jakeman who said the road was a "carpark".

But chairman Cllr Linda Robinson reminded the committee the site had already been approved for the new homes in the past.

"We have already given permission on this site," she said. "We would be in all sorts of trouble if we refused this and it went to an appeal."

Cllr Judy Pearce agreed but added it was frustrating the developers had taken so long to get started.

She added: "We will renew now, once more, but not again. They really need to be getting on with it now."

Surely an upgrade to include a footpath from the new housing development is essential to provide safety for children in those new homes? What does this say about how we value children?
