STUDENTS at Pershore High School celebrated after a poem they penned won them a trophy.
The group wrote the poem to pay tribute to inspirational heroes and entered into the Worcestershire High Schools Poetry Slam.
The team, consisting of Matt Manton, Matt Bessant, Montgomery Pike, Dylan Mulholland, Sam Williams and Will Hardman, missed out on first place but were thrilled to be awarded the runners up trophy.
English teacher Nick Spice thanked everyone involved.
"In front of strong parental support, the students were thrilled to be awarded the runners-up trophy by the judges in a nail-biting finale," he said. "With a poem paying tribute to inspirational heroes, the evening's only male team skilfully blended emotive imagery, slick choreography, humour and touches of social comment.
"The poem was 100 percent the sole work of the students, who gave up many lunchtimes to work on the piece.
"The boys received a rapturous response from the crowd when they took to the stage to receive their cup."
