A VALE nursery has closed its doors after 19 happy years.

Munchkins Kindergarten in South Littleton has been run at the home of Jenny Barnsley since 1995 when she moved to the village.

Since then she has looked after many youngsters but on Thursday (July 17) she closed the doors for good.

She said: "I moved into the house in 1993 thinking I would retire from full time teaching. But the local school wanted a local nursery and someone asked if I would open one. I did and I am still here."

The nursery has always been a small affair with around 15 children attending.

"I am now going to retire for the second time," said Mrs Barnsley. "It's the end of an era but I feel I have done my bit.

"Over the years I have seen so many children from all over the Vale. I can't go anywhere without seeing someone.

"One of the children in my first year has just graduated. His mum sent me a photo of him in his cap and gown. That says it's time to stop."

Anyone who would like to buy the equipment used at the nursery should contact Mrs Barnsley on 01386 832991.
