KIDDERMINSTER Town Hall will play host to Roddy Woomble, better known as the front man of Idlewild, on August 15.

Roddy will be stepping onto the Kidderminster stage as part of his farewell tour, supported by his guitarist Sorren and folk group The Lords of Thyme.

Born in Ayrshire, in Scotland, it was at university in Edinburgh that Roddy met Colin Newton and Rod Jones and formed the group Idlewild.

The band went on to record and release seven albums and three compilations - two of these albums debuted in the UK top 10.

They released 12 UK top 40 singles and toured throughout the world, as a headline act, and also as support to REM, U2 and the Rolling Stones among others.

Their last LP, Post Electric Blues, was released in October 2009.

Roddy released his first solo album in 2006 entitled My Secret Is My Silence, which featured Rod Jones from Idlewild, Ailidh Lennon and David Gow from Sons and Daughters, and folk musicians Andy Cutting, Kate Rusby, Ian Carr and Karine Polwart.

It featured in many best of the year polls, and spent several weeks at number one in the UK folk charts.

His latest album, Listen to Keep, features 11 new songs written and recorded on the Isle of Mull.

He continues to tour Britain and has also released a limited edition album, Roddy Woomble & Band - Live in the Inner Hebrides.

James Delin, show promoter, said: “We’re delighted to have Roddy perform in Kidderminster.

“It’s a heck of a journey from the Inner Hebredes but his pedigree speaks for itself.

“With Sorren and The Lords of Thyme supporting him this should be a fantastic evening for all music fans.”

Tickets for the gig, starting at 7.30pm, cost £15 and are available from the town hall box office.
