THE Bell Tower Appeal has had a massive boost this week after receiving formal confirmation from Evesham Town Council of the award of £50,000 of New Homes Bonus money by Wychavon District Council.

Dr Sue Ablett, chairman of the Bell Tower Appeal Committee, said: "This is a wonderful addition to our fundraising efforts and we are hugely grateful to all members of Evesham Town Council and Wychavon District Council for their support of the Bell Tower Appeal.

"We started a year ago with the daunting task of raising £500,000."

No thanks to the efforts of the committee and support from individuals, clubs and societies, and local businesses, as well as grant funding, including £200,000 from Heritage Lottery Fund, the appeal has just £92,000 left to raise.

"That is a remarkable achievement in a short space of time, and we are optimistic that we will reach our target," said Dr Ablett. "But we can’t do it alone. This is a plea to all readers, individuals and corporate. With your help we will take those last steps to reach our target of £500,000."
