PERSHORE Embroiders group bought along needlework to their latest meeting, with some pieces dating back more than 100 years.

At the Heritage Day members displayed their families old needlework piece, and amongst the items was a Friendship quilt made by members in 1986.

Initially the quilt was raffled, then passed through several sets of hands, recently returning to the group as a bequest.

It is hoped that a local museum will accept the quilt to add to their textile collection.

Other items included an antique chain stitch sewing machine, a going away dress and an evening dress from the 1930s, many dolls, beautiful examples of embroidery, some stitched by members as children, crochet and other needlework skills together with a christening gown dating from 1910.

The next meeting is a coffee morning at Defford Village Hall on August 19, from 10am until noon when members and visitors can enjoy a display of Pershore Embroiderer’s archive stitching, see examples of members current work and get help with any stitching problems.

Visitors are welcome and for more information contact Pamela Meers on 01389 553606.
