PROTESTORS calling for a stop to the badger cull will be staging a demonstration in Worcester on Wednesday (August 13).

Some protesters will be dressed as badgers or wearing badger masks and others will be holding anti-cull banners and placards.

The demonstration will take place outside the Government Buildings in Whittington Road between 4pm until 6pm where the regional the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and Natural England offices are situated.

With another cull in Gloucestershire and Somerset due to start at any time, the demonstrators will be calling on both of them to let the badgers live.

The protest will be followed by a social evening, organised by Worcestershire Vegans and Veggies, from 7pm until 9pm in the Upstairs Room at The Firefly, Lowesmoor, where there will be a talk by a representative of Gloucestershire Against Badger Shooting at 8pm.

For more info on either of these events, please contact Worcestershire Vegans and Veggies Communications Officer Ronald Lee on 01562 700043 or 07703 558724.

The only way to solve this problem is through better agricultural management and vaccination schemes.

Even destroying all wildlife completely, which is obviously highly unethical, won't fix the problem.

As usual, the current approach is very much politics before science.

It disappoints me that single-issue nutcase groups such as Vegetarians & Vegans With All Their Noise (or whoever they are, and FYI; badgers eat meat!) feel the need to get involved and lower the public perception of the cause they're trying to promote.

I fail to see what's "nutcase" about a group trying to promote a more humane way of eating and living (which would, of course, include not killing badgers) and just because badgers eat meat, that doesn't mean humans need to!

It's important to emphasise that the badger cull hasn't arisen out of any love for cows.

Fewer than 40,000 dairy cows are slaughtered annually in the UK because of bovine TB.

This is less than 10% of the 450,000 that are put to death each year, with
more than 100,000 being killed due to infertility, 120,000 because of
mastitis and lameness and the remaining 200,000 because they have become too old to be efficient milk producers.

Naturally cows can live to be up to 25 years old, but the dairy industry
slaughters them when they are only 5 to 7 years of age, and 100,000 male calves are put to death annually on dairy farms, shortly after birth.

All this suffering and slaughter because humans want to drink milk that is really meant for calves!

This issue as described by Tob And Blake will only divide the central support for the issue of the Badger Cull. all are rightly entitled to their view and of course I respect that.
Today I monitored on Facebook a group of Protesters who were at Ramsgate Port as some 3500 sheep crammed into 7 european registered lorries were exported live on a Latvian registered Tank landing Barge across the Channel to an unknown destination presumably for religious halal slaughter. The Barge will take some 5 hours to reach Calais. And the operation is run by two persons who have been convicted of animal Cruelty. this is another DEFRA/AHVLA area . It is the project and its objective to stop unecessary animal abuse and suffering which is important. Respect to you both carry on fighting for the cause. And I did not say whether i was carnivore or Veggie more respect

Personally I dont think one has to be vegan to claim the moral high ground. In this day and age non stun slaughter is just plain wrong, we have moved on from such barbarism. Farmers nauseate me too with their crocodile tears for bTb reactors, yet they are happy to trouser the compensation quick enough, all they are interested in is scapegoating badgers, As the Princess Royal would say, the hell with the science, give them a gentle gassing, that's what they need.

There are other solutions to the TB problem, just let's stop killing the badgers for goodness sake. It's not proven to be effective anyway so what exactly is the point?
