A VALE centenarian celebrated her birthday with best wishes from not only Queen Elizabeth but from the Irish President Michael D. Higgins.

Florence Fagan, who goes by the name, Evelyn, marked the milestone on Tuesday, August 12, at Salford House residential care home.

She was visited by her son and Gerard and two grandchildren Ciara and Niamh and received a ream of cards from friends and family.

Mrs Fagan hasn't always lived in the Vale, she was in fact born in India in 1914 and is one of 11 children.

She has one remaining younger sister who lives in Australia.

Her father was a Lieutenant in the British Army but sadly died in 1918 after being awarded the Belgium Croix de Guerre.

Mrs Fagan did her own bit for the war effort as an inspector in an aircraft parts manufacturer in the Second World War.

She was married to her husband Robert for 68 years, before he died in 2010.

For a long time Mrs Fagan lived in Ireland before moving to St Mary's Road in Evesham and then eventually coming to reside in Salford House in Salford Priors, near Evesham, in August 2010.

A strong Catholic faith sees her visited by a priest every week, a reason she attributes to her long life.
