ABOUT 50 passengers have managed to escape serious injury after a coach overturned on the M5 in Gloucestershire.

The incident has led to the closure of the M5 between junctions 13 and 14 Stroud to Thornbury in what the Highways Agency called a "serious incident".

A coach has overturned and all traffic is advised by the Highways Agency to leave the M5 southbound at Junction 13 and follow the solid black circle symbol via the A419 northbound then the A38 southbound.

They should then take the B4509 southbound to rejoin the M5 at junction 14.

All traffic that was trapped between the junctions has now been cleared and the Highways Agency is working with the emergency services to reopen the road as soon as possible.

The Highways Agency said it expected the road to be reopened by 12.30pm.

One child was being taken to Bristol Children's Hospital and five adults were being taken to Southmead, all with minor injuries.

South Western Ambulance Service (SWAS), which previously said there were seven casualties, said the six included four walking wounded.

All have minor injuries and patients are currently being assessed by ambulance crews on the scene.

SWAS, which is beginning to leave the scene, has said there are long delays and requested people avoid the area if possible.
