PLANS to build 124 homes in Pershore have been deferred for consideration at a later date.

The application by Lansdowne Rodway Estates Limited would see the homes built on land at Hurst Meadows, Wyre Road.

But despite the site being allocated in the emerging South Worcestershire Development Plan and a previous deferral based largely on flooding concerns a late finding by the Wildlife Trust caused members to defer again.

A report stated that 70 percent of the grassland falls into the old meadow category.

The Wildlife Trust said this is of national importance, since Worcestershire has approximately 20 percent of the remaining UK resource of this threatened and declining habitat.

The planning committee at Wychavon District Council voted unanimously to defer the application with the hope the developers would come back with a re-allocation of the homes on the site or a lesser volume.
