AN UNUSUAL sculpture has taken up residence in a garden near Evesham.

When David Osborne met Slovakian artist Peter Sedo at a sculpting class in Malvern he was so impressed with his work he commissioned him to create an artwork for his garden.

Mr Sedo, who lives in Pershore with his wife, was given free reign over the subject, size and material and came up with a striking 2.6 metre model of a voluptuous naked woman holding a set of dice entitled The Die is Cast.

The 43-year-old, who has lived in the UK for the past 10 years, told the Evesham Journal he had only decided to take up art five years ago.

"When I asked them what sort of thing they wanted they said they had a big garden and why didn't I start there," he said.

"I made some models and they chose one.

"I decided to do as a big sculpture which to me is the first step on the way to becoming a sculptor.

"In that way the die has been cast - I'm now on the way.

Mr Sedo, who works full time as a support worker for people with learning difficulties, worked on the sculpture in his spare time, taking about a year to fully complete it.

He said he had been inspired to become an artist after visiting an exhibition being held by an artist friend in Prague.

"All my life I had thought about what I really wanted to do," he said.

"When I found it I tried to think carefully about doing it professionally.

"It's step by step - I still have to pay bills.

"I can't just drop everything and do sculpting.

"But this is my life from now on, I hope."

Following the unveiling of the sculpture, which now has pride of place on a disused tennis court in Mr and Mrs Osborne's garden, he has now been commissioned to create work for two other friends.

Mr Osborne said he and his wife Janet were "delighted" with the finished work, which now has pride of place on a disused tennis court in their garden.

"My wife and I saw Peter Sedo's work at an exhibition in Malvern and decided to commission him because we were so impressed by what he was producing," he said.
