CONCERNS over a few buildings on a proposed new housing estate in Pinvin saw planners put off making a decision on the future of the homes.

A unanimous vote by Wychavon District Council's planning committee opted to defer the application for 34 homes on land off Upton Snodsbury Road in Pinvin.

While there was little concern about the principal of building, which is allocated for 25 homes in the emerging South Worcestershire Development Plan, councillors were worried about the appearance of some of the properties and the location and direction of four facing the main road.

Speaking at the meeting on Thursday Pinvin Parish Council's vice chairman councillor Steve Mitchell said: "Our principal objection is the treatment of the western boundary. Those hedge row will have to be removed. Our belief is it should be replaced with a small hedge row. The latest street scene shows a small ornamental hedge.

"Four of the homes now face onto Upton Snodsbury Road. They have front door access through the hedge. That will see people park on Upton Snodsbury Road.

"Cars travelling on average between 40 and 49 mph on this road. This represents and unacceptable traffic hazard."

Members agreed with concerns over the properties facing the road and local member Cllr Liz Tucker spoke to request the developer, Bloor Homes, reconsider this element of the design.

Cllr Linda Robinson added: "I worry the gateway buildings lack rural character. They want to be like lodges that lead you into the site."

Giles Brockbank, from the agents Hunter Page Planning, did speak in favour of the proposals saying the number of houses had increased in size only so they could offer more two and three bedroom houses in place of a number of four bedroom homes.
