MANAGER Carl Heeley believes the 2-0 victory over Chorley was achieved without Worcester City “hitting top form”.

The Blue and Whites made it three home victories on the bounce with an impressive display at Aggborough to despatch the league leaders.

Asked if he felt it was his team’s best show of the campaign, Heeley said: “The performances have generally been good this season.

“If we had stuck the ball in the net a few more times in the first six games, we’d be looking higher up the league.

“We haven’t done that but are delighted to win the game and do it without really hitting top form, which I felt was a credit to the boys.

“The players said they expected more from Chorley but they need to give themselves a bit of credit because they didn’t allow them to play.

“We defended well, kept a clean sheet and, rather than put teams down, let’s big up what we’ve done well.

“They worked incredibly hard out of possession and when they had the ball to find spaces, created chances and it could have been more convincing.

“Chorley were the leaders and haven’t really troubled our goal. In all honesty, we coasted to the win.

“We set ourselves a little target before Tuesday’s game against Lowestoft to try to get six points and we’ve achieved that so we’re delighted.”

Captain Ellis Deeney’s exquisite effort broke the deadlock before substitutes Nick Wright and Tristan Dunkley combined for the latter to wrap up the points.

“I was right behind it and, from the moment it left Ellis’ foot, it was in the top corner. It was a super strike,” Heeley said. “The pace of Nick and Tristan is a potent threat when people are tired.”
