AN Evesham mum who is on a mission to change the face of a town play area says while she may have almost reached her goal the fundraising will carry on.

Mother of three Lucy Bickerstaff set up the No Limits Campaign in May with a target of raising £10,000 to buy and install specialist disabled play equipment at the Crown Meadow park.

The kind hearted fundraiser has been working hard ever since to make the area all inclusive - even attracting the support of celebrity singer Chico.

And she should be about to reach her goal, thanks to a £5,000 New Homes Bonus grant allocated to the project by Evesham Town Council and £5,000 of donations.

"It's just got to receive final approval by Wychavon District Council now," she said. "But I definitely have the £5,000, which includes a £1,500 donation by the John Martin charity. It's like the champagne is chilling and I am just waiting to pop it open.

"I will carry on fundraising, the more money I raise the more equipment I can get."

Wychavon District Council plan to match the £10,000 raised, which should allow the park to have an ability whirl, which is a wheel chair friendly roundabout, and a special swing.

"Even if we raise more in the future more sensory equipment can be added," said Mrs Bickerstaff. "I will keep going until around March at the end of my appeal.

"I know there's still a few people that don't know about the appeal but it has been very well supported. The residents at Ferry View knitted a cover for a bike to raise money and Tesco donated a voucher for a raffle recently."

Mrs Bickerstaff also has a lot of events coming up, including a ghost walk with Spiritus on Saturday, October 18, from 7pm costing £15.

There will be Christmas craft making at imaGine in the Market Square from noon until 3pm on Saturday, November 22 and later that evening John Southern will be performing as Rod Stewart from 7.30pm at Evesham United Football Club.

And on the International day of Persons with Disabilities, December 3, Mrs Bickerstaff is hoping to get local schools and businesses to fundraise for her campaign.
