A DRIVER was assaulted by a pedestrian after beeping his horn to avoid an accident.

The incident happened at about 6pm on Monday, September 22, in Evesham.

A man was walking near the side of a footpath wearing black headphones, when the victim drove past in his car.

Because he thought the man was going to step into the road without looking, the driver, 53, sounded his horn and slammed on his brakes.

He then spoke to the pedestrian, who became agitated and punched the driver in the face through the car's open window.

The assault was without warning and caused minor facial injuries.

Police have appealed for witnesses after the assault, at the Thistledown junction in The Heathers.

The offender is described as white, tanned, around 5ft 8ins tall, mid 50s with short grey hair and a beard.

He was wearing large black headphones, black framed sunglasses, black shorts and a blue short sleeved top and walked off in the direction of Celandine Way.

PC James Wood, who is investigating, said: “It is possible that this offender lives in the vicinity.

"I’m appealing for anyone to come forward who may be able to help identify this man.

"I would also like to remind the public about the dangers of wearing headphones whilst using the public highway.

"Headphones reduce the ability to sense your surroundings and could render you vulnerable to harm.”

The victim took a photo of this man after the incident and police wish to speak with him to help them with their inquiries.
