GOALKEEPER Nathan Vaughan says neither himself nor Jose Veiga know if they are going to be playing from one week to the next.

For the first time in recent times, the Blue and Whites have two equally capable keepers on their books, with Vaughan arriving from Kidderminster Harriers in the summer to complement the vastly experienced Veiga.

Last season, City struggled for cover when the Portuguese was injured and ended up registering no fewer than 10 10 keepers for the duration of 2013-14.

Although Vaughan has played all but one of the games so far this term for Carl Heeley’s team, he insists he doesn’t take his position for granted and relishes competing the competition with Veiga for the number one jersey.

He said: “Jose is a fantastic keeper and it’s quite a modern thing to have two keepers to be contesting rather than one who is just sitting on the bench.

“We don’t know if we are going to be playing so it does keep us on our toes.”

Vaughan returned to the team following illness for last Saturday’s 2-1 Vanarama Conference North victory at Gainsborough Trinity and is likely to retain his place for today’s FA Cup third qualifying round clash at Leamington (3pm).

“We are determined to do well in the FA Cup this year,” he said. “The gaffer wants to have a good run and go as far as possible, as most managers do.

“It’s great to get a run in the cup, it’s good for the fans, player’s’ profiles and you never know who you could draw so we are looking forward to the game.”

City are also looking to stretch their unbeaten run to four matches in all competitions.

Vaughan added: “I am quite happy with the start. We could have turned a few of the draws into wins but we are quite a new squad and we are still gelling.”

The Blue and Whites saw off Rugby Town 3-1 in the second qualifying round last month.
