WORCESTER City are keen to make talented teenager Jordan Murphy part of their plans for as long as they can.

The 18-year-old forward, on loan from League One side Walsall until the beginning of November, marked his full debut at the weekend with the second goal in the 2-0 victory over Harrogate Town.

He has been involved in all four matches since arriving from the Saddlers and City want to extend his stay into a second month and beyond.

Murphy signed a one-year deal at the Bescot Stadium last month after making the switch from Stourbridge in the Southern League Premier Division, but is not currently in the first team picture.

He is the second Walsall player to make an impact at Worcester after Kieron Morris made seven appearances for the Blue and Whites towards the end of the 2012-13 season. Morris has so far played seven games for Dean Smith’s side this term.

City manager Carl Heeley said: “We’d like to think we’ve got a good record of bringing these young boys through.

“Kieron came here in a similar situation, did very well and has established himself around the Walsall first-team squad and that’s what Jordan is trying do to.

“This will be a lot tougher standard than youth or reserve football so it’s great in his development.

“He’s enjoying his football. If Walsall are not going to see him as an immediate part of their plans then I’m sure we can speak about extending his loan.

“Jordan’s had a decent start to his career and he’s another one with potential. He works incredibly hard and his movement is good.”

With Murphy having played against Leamington in the FA Cup after getting permission from his employers to feature, the teenager could be involved against Greenwich Borough at Aggborough.

Heeley has plenty of options available after bringing in Murphy and David McDermott for Sean Geddes and Daniel Nti against Harrogate in Vanarama Conference North.

The Worcester boss said: “It makes me smile when you hear about how Raheem Sterling can be tired at 19. But tiredness comes in a couple of forms — you can be physically tired and mentally tired.

“Connor Gater said he felt lethargic before Saturday but that was the mental effort of two tough games in a short space of time.

“We swapped it around because it’s no good having a squad if you’re never going to use them.”

Meanwhile, City’s away match at Hyde, moved because of this weekend’s cup game against Greenwich Borough at Aggborough, will now take place on Monday, December 1 (7.45pm).
