A BRAVE young girl who has been battling an adult form of blood cancer has been sent home to Evesham by doctors after being placed in remission.

Grace Dolphin has been fighting for her life after being diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia in May this year.

Her story has inspired others and a campaign was set up, the Go Grace Appeal, to send Grace and her family to Disneyland and raise money for charities, which have helped the family.

Now the seven-year-old has returned to her home in Avon Street, Evesham, where she lives with her parents Andy and Stacey Dolphin and sister Olivia, and they say it should be for good this time.

"As of Monday, October 13, she finished her chemotherapy," said Mr Dolphin, a baker. "And after the four doses of chemotherapy she was in remission.

"As parents we have always shied away from saying she was in remission, we don't want to shout from the rooftops because people get carried away and she still has a long way to go.

"But if you were to see her, she's looking very well apart from not having her hair, but doctors say that could start growing back by Christmas."

Despite this cautious nature Mr Dolphin said Grace had been placed in remission after three out of four bone marrow checks and added he was "confident" she would also be in remission after the latest one, being carried out on Tuesday this week.

"It's not really until now we wanted to say she was in remission.

"Everything is looking good at the moment.

"Now it's just a case of seeing about getting her back to school a few hours at a time and trying to get back to normal life to be honest.

"Obviously some days we will have to come up to Birmingham or Worcester for hospital appointments and other days we will have the community nurses round to keep an eye on her.

"There's still a long way to go but without a doubt this is great news."

The fundraising appeal has also gathered strength and is now raising money not only for the trip but also for Birmingham Children's Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House charity and Molly Olly's Wishes.

On Saturday, December 14, a Race for Grace Festive 10km will be held at Evesham United Football Club alongside a festive day of activities.
