YEAR 7 and 8 pupils from St Egwin’s CofE Middle School created a unique piece of artwork for their school’s new art and design technology building.

Headteacher Carol Kennedy offered 14 lucky girls and boys the chance to spend a few hours at glass artist Claudia Weigand’s studio near Pershore.

They discovered the art of glass fusing and got their hands busy adorning 22 glass fish and a 45cm long key, using crushed and off cuts of glass in a rainbow of colours.

This led to the creation of a 1m wide and tall mobile, which is hanging in the school’s new extension.

Business manager Sam Duckett said: "The mobile is a real treat which has brightened up an otherwise dull stairwell and the whole project is a success our pupils and staff admire and enjoy every day."

Ms Weigand said: "The children were fantastic to work with, full of ideas and enthusiasm, and I hope they treasure their experience of working with glass for many years."
