A MAN made unwanted advances towards a frightened girl of just 14 while she was dressed in her school uniform.

Tahsin Mohamad of Avon Road, Worcester, admitted harassment without violence against the girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, when he appeared before a deputy district judge at Worcester Magistrates Court on Monday.

The 35-year-old harassed the girl between August 12 and September 20 in Droitwich, making 'unwanted and unwarranted advances' towards her.

Jackie Rogers, prosecuting, said Mohamad approached the girl a number of times and said 'how are you?' and 'you're cute' and 'you're beautiful'. He also approached her while she was in the garage of her home, asking her 'how are you?' and 'how has your day been?' to which she did not reply. Mrs Rogers said the girl tried to avoid eye contact with Mohamad and stared down at the floor. Mohamad also asked her if she needed any help in the garage to which she also did not reply.

Mrs Rogers said: "He passed a piece of paper to her saying 'here's my number - message me'. The defendant said 'see you' and walked away. It had a phone number on it and the name Sam and three kisses. She felt frightened and scared by the contact with the defendant." She would check if his car was there before leaving the house. "On one of these occasions when he approached and spoke to her she was wearing her school uniform. He was clearly aware of her age. In interview he said he thought she was about 20" Mrs Rogers said. There were four incidents over a six week period. Mrs Rogers said the age disparity was an aggravating feature and that the girl had been frightened. He also has a previous conviction for harassment from 2009.

Mohamad, who has surrendered his passport, was charged 15 hours before he was due to get a flight back to Iraq on October 2 to see his brother 'because of the troubles there' although he had booked this flight five weeks before this said Paul Stanley, defending.

Deputy district judge DT Noble said: "I can imagine how distressed this girl would be with a man of this defendant's age approaching her. I am of the view this matter is so serious that all sentencing options need to be considered in due course."

The next case will be heard at the same court on October 27. An all options pre-sentence report has been ordered in the meantime.
