ORGANISERS of the third Broadway Arts Festival are to compete in next year's Visit England awards after a successful June event saw them win a commendation closer to home.

The festival is held biennially and this summer's event between May 30 and June 15 saw them receive a "highly commended" award at the 2014 Worcestershire Awards for Excellence in the "best festival and events" category from Destination Worcestershire.

The festival was designed to entrance, educate and amuse all those with an interest in the Arts; not just graphic art, but also music, literature and drama.

It opened at Trinity House Gallery, in Broadway, where the main feature exhibition was a collection of work by John Singer Sargent.

In addition, at least five long-established galleries in the village mounted exhibitions of both traditional and contemporary painting.

Artists, both amateur and professional, had the opportunity to join a series of masterclasses, workshops and demonstrations while nine music events presented work ranging from Bach to Jazz..
