WORCESTER City will again face League One opposition in the FA Cup after being drawn away to Scunthorpe United in the second round.

Carl Heeley’s heroes provided the shock of the first round when they defeated 1987 winners Coventry City 2-1 at the Ricoh Arena yesterday.

Now they head to Glanford Park over the first weekend of next month — likely to be Saturday, December 6 — to face a Scunthorpe side that are 21st in League One, two places lower than Coventry.

Heeley and assistant Matt Gardiner were guests at last night’s draw, shown live on the BBC from the National Football Museum in Manchester, while the players, including two-goal hero Sean Geddes, watched in the social club at Aggborough, the club's temporary home.

The City boss insists his team have no reason to fear Scunthorpe and believes they have what it takes to reach the promised land of the third round, when the Premier League clubs enter the fray.

Heeley said: “It’s another tough draw for us on the road again but after the result we had on Sunday it’s one we won’t fear.

“We’re just delighted to be here. We’ll go and give a good account of ourselves and you never know.

“It’s a magic competition, we’re in there and we’ve got every chance. There’s no fear for us there.”

Worcester were ball number 36 in the hat and were drawn out by BBC pundit and former Arsenal defender Martin Keown.

City coach John Snape, watching on with members of the squad and club officials in Kidderminster, was also in confident mood following the draw and is targeting another upset.

He said: “It’s winnable and hopefully we’ll be on the television. I think we can cause an upset.

“Showing no disrespect to Scunthorpe, we’d have liked a bigger tie but we’ll both look at it as a chance to progress to the third round.

"That chance to progress is key so we’ll be focusing all our efforts on that.

“Carl and Gards will have been working on the game plan on their way home from Manchester so we’ll be positive about it.”

Worcester captain Ellis Deeney added: “I think it’s a good tie, we’ve definitely got a chance of going there and winning it.

“With the research that Carl and Matt do, they’ll give us the best plan to go out there to go and beat them but I definitely think it’s a winnable tie.

“I know Coventry aren’t doing that well at the moment in the league but I don’t think Scunthorpe are either.

“I think we’ve definitely got a chance of going there and causing another upset.

"After seeing what we did on Sunday, I think the lads will be full of confidence.”
