Tatty wall at Foregate Street railway station to be improved by Network Rail

The train operator has told the city council it wants to improve the wall on the west side of Foregate Street railway bridge.

It follows concerns, expressed by Green Party Councillor Neil Laurenson, that the wall is one of the first things people see as they arrive into Worcester.

During a full council meeting he described it as "not a pleasant site" for people queuing at the bus stop and taxi rank next to it.

"A resident contacted me recently to express their negative opinion of the wall on the west side of the railway bridge," he said.

"The neglected appearance of the wall could well be the first thing that visitors to Worcester see, it is near a bus stop and taxi rank and is not a pleasant site for passengers who are queuing."

Councillor Simon Geraghty, the leader, said Network Rail has confirmed it was "looking to retile" the wall.

"I am more than happy to engage with them, I understand they have an approved scheme they want to undertake and that's something Network Rail is looking at," he said.
