MANAGER Carl Heeley says he is not surprised that Worcester City have sold 2,200 tickets for the FA Cup tie at Scunthorpe United.

City took 3,220 fans to Coventry City earlier this month and will once again be backed by a huge travelling support when they take on the League One side in the second-round clash on Sunday, December 7.

All of City’s tickets were snapped up within a week, including around 900 on the first day, and the Conference North club remain hopeful of getting more.

While Heeley admits he thought it would take longer to sell the tickets, he believes it underlines the potential of the club, who are currently in exile at Kidderminster Harriers.

“The support we had at Coventry was fabulous and I am not surprised we’ve sold our allocation,” the Worcester boss said.

“I’m slightly surprised how quickly we sold out but it’s brilliant.

“The cup is as much for the supporters as it is for the players and we’re all enjoying it as a club.

“Yes, it’s going to come to an end at some point but we want to go as far as we can and enjoy the big moments.

“The supporters are enjoying it and they need to come and play their part at Scunthorpe because they certainly did that in a massive way at Coventry.

“If they do that and we’re on our game, then who knows?”

He continued: “Worcester City have a massive capability to bring in big crowds.

“I’ve been lucky enough to experience it in my playing career and it doesn’t surprise me what’s happened.

“The players and the performances have engineered that type of support.

“It’s always been there but what we do on the pitch dictates what happens with the support.”

The cup run has put the players in the spotlight and Heeley says he would not stand in their way if bigger clubs showed an interest.

Attacking midfielder Sean Geddes is rumoured to be on the radar of several Football League clubs after his two-goal salvo in knocking Coventry out at the Ricoh Arena.

Reigning player-of-the-season George Williams continues to impress, while striker Daniel Nti scored twice in Saturday’s 3-0 Vanarama Conference North victory over Harrogate Town.

“They’re good players and doing well for the club,” Heeley said.

“Daniel Nti, George Williams, Connor Gater and Sean Geddes are all relatively new to this level of football but you can see how much they’ve developed.

“I’m not going to be disappointed if any of the players get full-time moves. I would be delighted for them.

“But, while they are here, they are enjoying themselves and working hard — that’s all they’re focused on.”
