MIDFIELDER Danny Jackman says the interest generated in Worcester City as the result of the club’s FA Cup adventure has been vital in their quest to return home.

The Blue and Whites are enjoying their finest run in the competition for more than 30 years having knocked out 1987 winners Coventry City in the first round.

Carl Heeley’s side now face a lucrative BT Sport-televised replay against Scunthorpe United at Aggborough next Wednesday with a place in the third round against Chesterfield at stake.

It has brought the club, currently in their second season of exile at Kidderminster Harriers, to the attention of a national audience and seen them take more than 5,000 fans to Coventry and Scunthorpe combined.

Jackman reckons that whatever the outcome against Scunthorpe, the increased profile of the Conference North club both in Worcestershire and further afield has been invaluable.

The 31-year-old, whose grandfather Bill played 121 times for the club between 1947 and 1953, said: “It’s amazing, we’re doing well and there’s a massively good feeling about the club and the city which is great.

“It’s great to have people talking about the club again which is what we want.

“We’re not the biggest of clubs and being away from our home city takes the shine off it a little bit.

“Hopefully now, even if it’s got people talking about it and the possibility of moving back to Worcester then this whole run has been well worth it.

“We want to get back and the great fans that we’ve had in the previous games, we want to give them something like that on a regular basis.”

City’s success forms part of a 14-game unbeaten sequence, their best for 36 years, which has seen them rise to eighth in the league and set up an FA Trophy first round proper match against Halifax at Aggborough on Saturday.

Jackman continued: “At the minute, I keep warning the lads that we’ve got to keep grounded but it’s going well on all fronts which is quite rare.

“Even at my age it’s still a new thing for me and confidence breeds confidence and it just snowballs. It’s a great club to be at and everyone is enjoying it. We’re a tight bunch from the gaffer through to the kitman and that helps.

“We know what we’ve got, we stick to what we’re good at and let everyone else do the talking and it’s working.”
