WHILE Worcester City winning the FA Cup might be stretching the imagination somewhat, the prospect of success in non-league’s showpiece knockout competition is more realistic.

Today, the Blue and Whites put their FA Cup exploits to one side as they attempt to beat higher-ranked Halifax in the FA Trophy first round at Aggborough (3pm).

Having already sent Conference North leaders Barrow crashing out, City are confident of causing another upset.

With the final at Wembley in March, there is plenty of incentive for non-league teams to triumph and Worcester are no different.

Danny Jackman believes it is a possibility and says his team-mates should aspire to achieve such a feat.

“Getting to Wembley would be amazing, I have never been there,” the midfielder said. “I’ve played at the Millennium Stadium but not Wembley, so for me that would be incredible. It would be a great day out for the whole of Worcester.

“It’s achievable with the run that we’re on and the way we’re playing. It’s one hurdle after another and we’ll see where it goes from there.”

Jackman, 31, is also calling on City’s supporters to turn out in force as they bid to extend their unbeaten run to 15 games.

More than 5,000 fans have journeyed to Coventry and Scunthorpe for the FA Cup games, but crowds are yet to break the 1,000-barrier at Aggborough this term.

Jackman said: “It will be a really tough game but we’re at home and if we can get a little bit more support — even half of what was there at the weekend — that would give us a massive lift. If we can get another positive result, then it’s looking good on all fronts.”

Meanwhile, Ellis Deeney insists there is more to come from City as they look to progress in the FA Cup and Trophy.

The captain feels his team-mates didn’t show their true potential in last Sunday’s match at Scunthorpe, despite Worcester hitting back to draw 1-1 and force a replay.

“We were all disappointed with how we played, especially in the first half,” Deeney said. “It was a very good result to get a draw from another game at a Football League club, but we have to do what we do best when we play them again.”
