THE Beaver Scouts at 1st Evesham 1st Hampton were celebrating, after their leader was presented with the highest youth award in Scouting.

Beaver leader James Bell-Winfrow received the Queen’s Scout Award during a recent fun day held in the run up to Christmas.

In order to achieve the award Mr Bell-Winfrow carried out a range of activities.

He volunteered to help with a Cub Pack and Beaver Colony as an Explorer Scout Young Leader, he took up climbing as his physical challenge, learning the basics on an indoor climbing wall and progressing to outdoor rock and for his skills challenge and Mr Bell-Winfrow also learned how to build and maintain a website for a local youth programme.

He also took part in a five day green action conservation course to fulfil the requirements for the residential section and a four day canoeing expedition down the river Wye from Glasbury to Monmouth, looking at the ecclesiastical history of the Wye Valley along the way.

Earlier this year, Mr Bell-Winfrow also achieved the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award.
