MALVERN Hills Conservators are preparing to hold an election to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of Clive Smith from the board.

Mr Smith announced his resignation in a statement to the board's December meeting, which said he is joining the company promoting plans for a cable car on the Worcestershire Beacon.

His departure leaves a vacancy in the Link ward, and the Conservators are now looking for candidates to fill the post, with an election timetabled for Thursday, February 5.

Conservators director Stephen Bound said: "Being a board member requires commitment. There are around ten meetings a year to attend and Conservators need to develop a knowledge of the hills and commons, an understanding of the acts of parliament which govern our work and an appreciation of charity law.

"However, it’s a great opportunity for anyone who would like to get involved in the management of the hills and commons and of this historic organisation."

Candidates for election must either be on the electoral register for, work in or own or rent a property in one of the wards or parishes that pays the Malvern Hills Conservators levy or have lived in one of these wards or parishes for 12 months before the date of the election.

Mr Bound said: "Anyone meeting the required criteria can stand for election. We are always looking to ensure that we have the right mix of skills and experience on the board. With this in mind we would love to receive nominations for candidates with a financial, human resources, communications or fundraising background."

Conservators do not receive any allowances or expenses for attending meetings of the board.

Anyone interested should contact 01684 892002 or conservators@malvernhills.org.uk for copies of the nomination forms. All nominations must be received by 4pm on Friday, January 9.
