WITH just three weeks to go before the annual Malvern Pancake Race in Priory Park, local Rotarians are urging any more teams that want to compete to get in touch.

Malvern Rotary Club has held the fundraising event for the past six years, and it has proved to be a fun-filled addition to the town's calendar.

Michael Barraclough of the club said: "We can only raise money and also have a bit of fun with your help. So please put the date in your diary or better still join in."

This year's event is on Shrove Tuesday, March 17, starting at about. 12.30pm.

Organisers are on the lookout for teams of four adults in two categories, the Elite whose average age is 50 or below, and Veterans, with average age above 50. Entry fee is £20 per team.

"There is scope for all comers," said Mr Barraclough. "Teams with fancy dress are always very welcome and have great entertainment value for the onlookers, and the participants."

Teams entered by charities will keep all the sponsorship they raise. Non-charity teams can nominate any charity to receive half their sponsorship while the other half will be used by Rotary to support worthy causes throughout the year.

This year these include the local branch of Macmillan Nurses, Prostate Cancer UK, which is now the largest men's health charity in the UK and other Rotary charities that support local causes.
