VETERAN footballers in the Vale have given themselves a goal of a different type to achieve by the end of the season.

However, the season in question is the "Dry January" season and the goal is £2,400 to be raised by the last day of January.

Rob Dartnell, who at 51 is the younger of the strike force with Dave Saunders whose combined ages reach 107. Both men are members of Evesham Fortis FC.

Several of the squad, many of whom will never see 39 again, have signed up to be dry athletes to raise money for cancer research.

The team has already smashed the £2,000 barrier and are looking to reach their final total within the next few days.
