MANAGER Carl Heeley says reaching the Conference North play-offs is not at the forefront of Worcester City’s thinking ahead of tomorrow’s trip to North Ferriby United (3pm).

The Blue and Whites defeated Oxford City 1-0 on Tuesday to leap-frog their rivals into 11th place in the table.

They are now just six points adrift of the top five and victory would see them go above North Ferriby and make inroads into the top 10.

But Heeley reckons too much emphasis has been placed on the play-offs and all he is worried about is the trip to Church Road.

He said: “Maybe we have got carried away with ourselves. Let’s get back to concentrating on the next game, forget the play-offs. We’re aiming to win the next game and we’ll see where that takes us.

“We knew if we beat Oxford we would go above them so it’s the same principle with North Ferriby.

“They are going to be a strong side and it will tough there as it always is. But we’ve got a little bit of a foothold now with four points in two games and hopefully we can start on another run.”

City are going for the double against the Villagers after two Daniel Nti penalties gave them a 2-1 success at Aggborough back in August.

Nti was also on target when Worcester were beaten 2-1 alongside the Humber Estuary last March.

“We beat them here and it was a close game and it will be another close game,” Heeley said.

“If we can compete and do as we have done in the last couple of games we’ve got that bit of quality and can pass the ball if the pitch allows us to.

“We’ll go there looking to win the game as we always do.”

With Tyler Weir a long-term absentee, left-back remains an area of concern after Danny Jackman was rested on Tuesday to protect a hamstring problem. Shabir Khan came into the side but was replaced by Connor Gudger for the last eight minutes due to fatigue.

Leading scorer Sean Geddes is also nursing a hamstring problem and was replaced by Dean Waldron with 20 minutes to go against Oxford as a precaution.

Heeley said: “Danny has got a tight hamstring so we decided that we had to leave him out. He could have played but we couldn’t take the risk of losing him for four to six weeks.

“It’s the same with Sean so we made a change to get fresh legs on without risking losing any more players.”
